Ways of Working Assessment Dashboard (Temporary File Size Issue)

Hi All, not sure if other people have had this issue but several our analyst have encountered this and it is making the ways of working assessment dashboard unusable for larger regions. There hasn't been any resolution via Microsoft support even after 2 weeks unfortunately. 

The issue is that when updating the ways of working template for a last organization with a large population and with many dimensions, the temporary space on the hard drive goes out of control until all the space is used up. In fact, I had this issue happen to me for only 500 user population with about 50 dimensions. The think the issue is due to how the ways of working assessment dashboard creates duplicate rows for every dimension of data loaded. our laptops don't come with terabytes of space and upgrading space shouldn't be the solution. The final file size is only 30-40mb but during the refresh the temporary files reach over 300gb before failing.

Are there any plans of optimising the ways of working dashboard so that it can handle large population and dimensions?

I also struggle with this, the files become unmanageable sometimes!

I don't have a solution, but I've reduced the time period that I'm reporting on, and I'm looking at ways of creating my organizational data as separate dimension tables. so that I can bypass the duplication that occurs within the WoW query. Not solved - but it might be something you could look at too...

We have designed Power BI templates to help Viva Insights users with the most common setups and business scenarios. For best results, use the following guidelines for selecting the parameters while setting up the templates for Power BI:

• Limit the number of employees included in your query results to 50,000 or less.
• Select the last six months or less for the time period.
• Include up to seven organizational attributes in your query, including the required ones.

I encourage you to think of the use case for the report you are trying to set up and scope it to the right population, time period, and only those dimensions (organizational attributes) you need for your analysis.

You can also consider initializing the template in Power BI Desktop with a reduced dataset: you may run your Viva Insights queries for just the last 1 month, include a few employees and a few organizational attributes. Once you initialize the template, you can publish it to the Power BI service. You can then run your Viva Insights queries using the intended parameters (population, time, and organizational attributes) and change the OData URL links in the data source in the Power BI service. Finally, you can refresh the report in the service. You can also consider publishing the report to a workspace in a Premium capacity.
