I cannot get the Power BI Connector to Work - Data Table Shows Up Blank

I have 230 paid licenses in WPA right now. I run WPA queries and everything shows up fine. I am new to Power BI and want to bring some data over from WPA to Power BI. I followed these instructions exactly several times. Link to instructions. Once I run the connection the data table in Power BI shows up with all the expected column headers but ....no data. It also looks slightly different than the data table wizard in the instructions because it doesn't have a folder structure next to it. How do I get this connector to work? Note: I successfully navigated from the pre-built viz on the Home page of WPA over to Power BI which works fine except it only brings over the variables needed for that particular viz and I want to bring over all the variables so I can start my own viz. As I said I am new to Power BI and some of the pre-built viz are beyond my skill level at the moment. Thanks to anyone who can help!

My table after connecting....

Hi @cody_martin, can you check a couple things please?

  1. Do you have the latest version of PowerBI Desktop installed?
  2. Have you signed in to PowerBI using the same account you sign into WpA with? https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/viva/insights/tutorials/power-bi-templates#odata-request-failed
  3. After you have connected the OData Link have you clicked load?

If none of those work please let me know and we can set up time to troubleshoot live.

The same email address is being used at the user name in both WPA and PowerBI.

This is the version of PBI that I have: Version: 2.91.884.0 64-bit (March 2021)

This may be part of the problem: the latest version of PowerBI is: Version: 2.98.882.0 64-bit (October 2021)

Here is a link to update it: Power BI Desktop—Interactive Reports | Microsoft Power BI

@Jake_Caddes  Running the latest version now and it still comes up blank for both the partition and when linked to a specific query.

By the way you mentioned an Odata link in one of your replies but I my path thus far has been Get data>Online Services>Workplace Analytics (Beta) per the instructions.

I hit the load button and it processes the empty data set and then sets me up on the Desktop to start building viz but when you select variables for a viz there is no data in any of them.

@Jake_Caddes Thanks in advance for any advice on this issue.

Hi @Jake_Caddes

I have the same error, empty table using workplace analytics connector.

It doesn't work either with a pbit downloaded from Viva, either connecting from Workplace Analytics connector, directly from Power BI Desktop.

It's working with an OData feed using a custom query.

I have Power BI Desktop November 2021, and I'm using the right credentials to access my data.

Could you help me?

Hi Cody - when you try to use the beta Workplace Analytics data source in Power BI, it should give you the option to choose between “Import” and “Direct Query” modes. One of those (I don’t recall which) results in the “empty” behavior that you describe. You might try selecting the other and see if that fixes the issue for you!

@Jessalynn_Uchac I really appreciate the offer of this solution and was very excited to try it out. Unfortunately I get the same empty behavior no matter what combination of settings I pick. Should i try a different connector or can someone jump on with me for 5 min and solution? Thank you, Cody

Hi @cody_martin! Not sure if you managed to receive any help on this yet. Have you tried getting data into PowerBI using an OData link instead. Instructions can be found here: View, download, and export Workplace Analytics query results | Microsoft Docs. I have found that this is generally the most stable way of getting data.
