Channel message hours questions

Could you provide me with a little more information on how channel message hours are calculated? How does it keep in mind people just scrolling through the channel, or not reading the channel at all? Are large channels treated any different?

Finally, we also noticed that there is more historic data available on channel messaging then what was previously mentioned. May we assume that for the dates where channel are correct and complete, or could it be that certain channels are missed, because they were no longer existing when channel messaging became active?

Hi @NielsSelleslach we use 53 sec for time spent per Channel visit, and 43 sec for time spent per Channel post/reply.

We attribute time per “Visit” to a channel. Each visit could include reading multiple messages that may be old or new, and based on data analysis we found that typical time spent per channel “visit” is 53 sec.  

For the channel metrics data, it seems strange that there are so many weeks worth of data before the release date. This can be opened as an ICM for Eng team to investigate if you would like us to.

curious what is the methodology or basis behind "53 sec for time spent per Channel visit, and 43 sec for time spent per Channel post/reply"? is this a benchmark based on industry standard or Microsoft's research? 

This benchmark was based on data analysis performed by Microsoft on the average time spent by users on Teams channels.
